Get to Know JacQuez
Educator. Minister. Councilman.
Candidate for Mayor of Thomasville.

JacQuez Johnson was born in Thomasville, raised in Winston-Salem, and returned home in 8th grade to the city that would one day elect him to its highest levels of leadership. His journey began not in politics, but in purpose, a purpose rooted in pain. At just three years old, JacQuez lost his father to gun violence. That tragedy planted a seed of justice in him early and a lifelong drive to build a safer, more compassionate community where every family has a fair shot.

Today, JacQuez proudly serves as Thomasville’s youngest African American City Councilman. His record of leadership includes serving as Chairman of the Thomasville Multicultural Committee (2020–2022), where he led city-wide efforts for inclusion, equity, and cultural celebration. His work has earned him recognition such as the 2023 MLK-SAC Beloved Community Award honoring his unwavering pursuit of justice and unity. JacQuez also works alongside the people of Thomasville, most recently serving as
a high school English teacher and Student Government advisor for Thomasville High School.

Now, JacQuez Johnson is running for Mayor of Thomasville, not to make history, but to make a difference. His campaign is powered by faith, community, and a bold belief: that our city deserves leadership that listens, leads with love, and works for everyone.

At 15, JacQuez became a licensed minister, using his voice to uplift others and guide his peers through faith, resilience, and integrity. This commitment to service, even in his youth, shaped the leader he is today: present, principled, and prepared. In 2015, JacQuez made history as the first African American Mayor’s Intern in Thomasville, serving under Mayor Raleigh York Jr. until 2019. From that experience forward, he never stopped showing up for his city. By the age of 23, he had become the youngest Chairman of the Davidson County Democratic Party and one of the most recognized young leaders in North Carolina politics.

A graduate of Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Communication Studies, JacQuez has used his platform to serve on more than 20 local and state campaigns, amplifying voices that too often go unheard. In 2024, he was elected as an At-Large Delegate to the Democratic National Convention, proudly representing North Carolina on the national stage.
